An application example in the design phase: digital and innovative management and use of the creative process of designing a High Rise Building in Dubai

The Iuav University of Venice and the “Dynamic design DMCC, a management and design company based in Dubai, have experimented with the virtual reality tools of ACCA software during the design and presentation of a high rise building in Dubai. 

In particular, during a coordination meeting of a design team, 4 different virtual reality application scenarios were experimented with: 

  • Co-presence in the BIM model: with usBIM.reality the individual professionals of the design team were able to connect through the browser to a federated model and view the model in real time rendering. In this way, a real coordination meeting was created, where through the use of different devices (PCs, tablets and virtual reality viewers) they were able to work directly in the model in an immersive, interactive and simultaneous way through a multi-user and therefore multi-device use, for an exploratory, collaborative experience in real-time and directly in the cloud. 
  • Design review: this activity with usBIM.reality has been made easier and more effective thanks to the "guided tour" function. It was possible to share a common point of view among all users and explore the model together, while maintaining a freedom of rotation of the subjective chamber
    . In this way it was possible to highlight the objects to be submitted to the attention of the team, draw the attention of one or more stakeholders during the design review phase on a specific element of interest, save and share a new version of the model.
  • Real-time rendering: usBIM.reality has allowed you to interact with the BIM environment in real time. Designers were able to experiment with design changes or simulate environmental and atmospheric conditions to evaluate design choices/variations or create impactful client presentations.
  • Clash detection: with usBIM.reality all the design team can “enter” the federated model and visualize the clash detection through real time visualization. Through the use of virtual reality the clash is highlighted to the whole team simultaneously; in this way the level of understanding of the problem is clearly increased and the resolution is made even easier and more immediate

From these application examples it clearly emerges how virtual reality and the BIM metaverse have allowed new ways of collaborating and visualizing projects like never before, intervening on speed, efficiency and quality of the design process.

Each activity of the design phase becomes an immersive activity, increasingly closer to reality, involving greater awareness of the choices made and better coordination of the different process professionals.
