Steel nodes verification software | NeXus | ACCA software

NeXus is the software solution for analyzing steel nodes of any shape and under stress from any direction.

A powerful parametric 3D/BIM software enabling users to assemble steel connections without standardized type constraints, starting from the sections available in the comprehensive profile library to analyse their behaviour through a finite element analysis (FEM analysis).

3D/BIM input and FEM solver for the design and analysis of steel connections in real time of any node type

The input of NeXus is revolutionary!

Select node elements from a library of parametric objects, model the connection in 3D rotating it and modifying all components in real-time, resulting in an extraordinary design speed and control.

The input environment in NeXus is completely 3D. Design any type of connection in a much more streamlined and rapid method than other software with numerical input editors and three-dimensional views without any interaction.

Thanks to parametric three-dimensional modelling, you can easily achieve unions with a large number of rods and quickly indicate loads in multiple directions.

You have real-time stresses, deformations, strength reserves of the individual components and an immediate visualisation of the node behaviour with its safety margins.

With NeXus you can quickly tackle detailed design and connection analysis:

  • steel column beam node;
  • beam-to-beam connections;
  • steel beam-column union;
  • upwind ends;
  • complex multi-member connections;
  • steel-concrete*;
  • connections included in Eurocodes (EC) specifications.

Input, meshing and results are dynamic and give the designer an extraordinary awareness and ability to manage design and calculation.

Rigorous calculation methodologies steel connections and results always available for more conscious design, without material waste | NeXus | ACCA software

Rigorous calculation methodologies of steel connections and results always available for a more conscious design, without material waste and with lower costs

The software automatically creates meshes of plates, welds, bolts, anchors, ribs, stiffeners, flanges, joints, gussets, reinforcement plates, joint covers, base plates, etc.

From the 3D model of the union we quickly proceed to the finite element calculation, analysing the elastic-plastic behaviour of the elements by means of non-linear calculation*.

Automatic meshing and finite element calculation allow all stresses to be seen in real time on the 3D model and any changes to be made with new immediate and dynamic analyses.

NeXus analyses general steel connections, both by shape (i.e. for any type of rod to be connected) and by load direction.

You can say goodbye to calculation formulas from standards or technical literature that often involve a truly unacceptable degree of approximation.
The state of deformation and tension in the union are realistically determined using the finite element method, and simplifying assumptions (e.g. rigid plates) often used to know the stresses in the different components of the union are no longer necessary.

NeXus and its rigorous calculation engine allows you to optimise the size of union components, avoid unnecessary oversizing and material wastages and increase cost savings.

Few steps to obtain consistent calculation and verification results of steel nodes with tension maps, printouts, reports and working drawings | NeXus | ACCA software

A few steps to obtain consistent calculation and verification results of steel nodes with tension maps, printouts, reports and working drawings

Thanks to the powerful graphics and calculation engine integrated in NeXus, modelling and calculation of any connection is very simple and fast, with automatic generation of the FEM model of the connection.

  • Various components are identified in the union: connected beams, plates, bolts, welds, etc;
  • All components of the union, within the framework of the FEM method, are appropriately schematised: connected beams and plates as shell elements, bolts discretized with finite elements and connected with links to the plates, welds modelled as a set of elements capable of transmitting and receiving parallel and orthogonal σ and τ;
  • The union analysis, employing either linear or non-linear calculations, yields the stress and deformation profiles of the various components;
  • Through the integrated FEM solver, various analyses are derived, including node stiffness analysis, fatigue analysis, and node capacity design specifically tailored for seismic zones*;
  • Buckling calculations promptly identify local buckling within the rods and determine critical load factors*;
  • Each component undergoes verification utilizing standard formulas (Eurocode, EC), with the FEM model's point response automatically interpreted to assess stresses directly comparable to material strengths;
  • Verifications encompass tensional and/or deformational assessments, incorporating diverse failure criteria when a normative verification is unfeasible.

From the analysis, we obtain clear information on the behaviour of the union/connection.

The results are tension maps that are able to represent all stress and test conditions at a glance.
