Object-oriented BIM technology

EdiLus BIM technology allows you to draw structural elements in two-dimensional or three-dimensional form by selecting the object characteristics at any time of the design phase.
Each object is represented graphically and dynamically connected to a database of information that univocally identifies it in its dimensional, geometric and physical characteristics (material, mechanical, etc.). The data assigned to the object characteristics compose an element input for the calculation process and each modification immediately and dynamically becomes a new verification condition.
The input allows you to insert, modify and delete the objects keeping constantly under control plan views, cross sections or the axonometric view of the structure.
All data is stored in a single database and in a single file, with endless advantages for the design workflow.

FEM solver integrated into the software

With the integrated FEM solver, quickly analyze complex structures even of large dimensions. The calculation process uses high-performance elements such as:

  • triangular HP-SHELL elements equipped with "drilling" degree of freedom;
  • the HP-BEAM element, with flexible beam, 2 hinges on each side, rigid arms, freely oriented, end junctions and elastic soil behaviour at the flexible part, allows to obtain rigorous calculation results, without the approximations deriving from less appropriate schematizations.

The solver is further enhanced by the automatic discretization function of the shell elements, which allows the designer to consider the real displacements between the various structural elements and allows to define variable thickening between the edges and the inside of the shell mesh.

View results graphically

EdiLus represents the results directly in graphical form by means of easy to read diagrams or 3D colour maps. Loads, tensions, stresses, thanks to object-oriented technology, can be queried by the user for complete control of the performed analysis.

With a 3D colour mapped animation of the structure, EdiLus allows you to simulate and evaluate the dynamic evolution of the designed structure under the effects of an earthquake.

Interactive diagnostics

A powerful diagnostic reporting tool quickly and precisely highlights any modeling errors and regulatory requirement verifications. The detailed explanation of any modelling errors, dynamically connected to the object, guides the user in troubleshooting. The diagnostics is active in every phase of the design: at each modification it checks if errors have been introduced or if any errors already present have been corrected.

Project documents

With EdiLus automatically produce Calculation and Technical Reports, Calculation Tables, highly detailed Working Drawings and Bill of Quantities. All construction drawings are composed directly within the program by simply dragging and dropping the single drawings into the working drawings layout already pre-formatted with a wide range of title-blocks. All produced drawings can be printed or exported in standard formats including dxf, dwg, pdf, rtf, etc.

Detailed BoQ of the structure

The Structural design process and Bill of Quantities phases are fully integrated with each other in a single workflow. Structure design and the calculation, together with the steel rebar schedule definitions, steel connections, etc., automatically produce the relating material quantities with powerful BoQ features integrated directly in EdiLus. Any changes made to the stucture are immediately updated in the Bill of Quantities too maintaining a constant alignment between the structural model, the relating project documents set and the structural element quantities. For advanced quantity surveying features, the data can be integhrated and exported to PriMus.

Import/Export in the IFC format for sharing on collaborative platforms

EdiLus can import and export structural models in the IFC standard format. IFC is the "common" file format, an information model, which allows design team members (architectural, structural, plant engineering, etc.) to exchange their BIM models between each other regardless of the software they use. EdiLus's IFC 2x3 import and export features are both IFC Coordination View 2.0 certified by buildingSMART International.
With EdiLus you can, for example, import the digital model of the architectural project created with an architectural BIM design software (for example: Edificius, Revit, Allplan, ArchiCAD, VectorWorks, etc.) and continue to work on the structural design and analysis aspects in 3D in accordance with the design requirements as established by other design team disciplines.

EdiLus integrates with a CDE collaborative platform usBIM.platform, to finally fulfil the idea of a unitary and shared design workflow.

Download the BIM models in the IFC format of architectural or plant projects from the cloud and proceed with advanced 3D modelling of the structure in a collaborative workflow; export the BIM model in the IFC format together with construction documents and calculation results back to the cloud choosing which folder to save the files setting the relevant file access permission levels for each authorized user.

The BIM collaboration platform allows all team members to have an open and continuous dialogue with each of the stakeholders involved in the construction during its life cycle as designers, construction companies, maintenance companies, plant and technical installation companies, customers, etc.

Seamless integration with Edificius

Thanks to the integration with the Edificius BIM software, it is possible to make Architecture designs and Structures interact, with the advantage of obtaining a simplified and rapid input of the structure (thanks to object recognition within the model) and a convergence of structural and design details.
But there are many advantages: optimization of operatiing flows, time, costs, design errors, unwanted duplications and interferences are nearly reduced to zero and, above all, high integration between the design phase and the execution phase.

EdiLus-VR and BIM voyager: publish and share the structural model online and view the project from a simple web browser.

Thanks to the integrated EdiLus-VR feature, you can publish the digital model on the BIM voyager platform to share the project with clients, architectural designers, installers or with component manufacturers.
The BIM voyager service even allows you to publish working drawings, calculation results, construction details, etc.
Simply using the basic functions of the most widely used browsers, navigate within the structure freely without the need of any dedicated software.
Even from the building site, everyone involved on a given project can access data and information relating to the structural information and take a virtual journey in the virtual model to get a closer look at all design aspects with great simplicity and naturalness.
